Invitation to Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is about moving through landscapes of meaning. That landscape can be geographic or it can be a season of one’s life. Often our inner and outer landscapes coincide. Pilgrimage is about meeting yourself. It’s an adventure of realigning body, mind, and spirit into the whole.
The call to pilgrimage often accompanies new awakenings, and transitions. It invites us to literally move into a new space, time, and being. The simplicity of walking strips away the clutter so we can focus on what’s important.
Unlike a vacation where we often escape the pressures of daily life, pilgrimage calls us to engage, and connect. The journey calls us to the hard work of openness and vulnerability to receive its gifts. The journey begins again when you return home and “unpack” this experience.
I invite you to walk in community. There’s a saying, “If you want walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk with others.” Take a look at the upcoming pilgrimages on the Camino de Santiago (under 'Trips" in the menu). You choose to walk your way — whether partly in solitude and/or in the supportive company of others. We will gather together daily to share the joys and challenges of the day and support one another. And… in addition to walking, moving on this journey can also include singing, laughing, painting, praying, dancing, biking, journaling and who knows what else? How may I support you in your call to move creatively into this new space and time?
If you are clergy or church professional, might pilgrimage on the camino be an opportunity to refresh your spirit on renewal leave?
And what a great way to build community in your local church or faith-based organization!
Let’s talk about organizing a group camino! There are also ways for the congregation to pilgrim in place while others pilgrim on the camino.
